Mon Jun 30th - Oh my!

I can't believe it's already the end of June. It just felt like yesterday when I first moved out of San Diego. It also kind of freaks me out how much closer to midsummer we are, but that does mean I'm closer to my Manhattan trip. I went last year and this year, I'm skipping out on all the touristy stuff and hoping to go all around Manhattan in search for good deals.

But for now, I'm just hanging out at home. It's good to be lazy.

I had found these suspenders in my garage during a clean out. No one really knew where they came from, and they were awfully beat up, but I kept them anyways. I couldn't resist!! To be honest, I think they were little boy suspenders, because of the small size. Could've been my brother's pair back when he was young?

Sat Jun 28th - Lightspeeeeed Champion!!!

If you had caught me mentioning this in my previous few posts, I did indeed see Lightspeed Champion in concert for my birthday! Now, who is Lightspeed Champion? He is Dev, the previous drummer for the UK band Test Icicles. (Although Test Icicles were loud, screamy, and crazyfun, Dev is more mellow, my heart is broken, and swayingfun.)

I purchased this rather overpriced tee from his merch stand. I love the crazy childish doodles and plaid prints and I couldn't wait to wear it! Fast forward to today, where I finally decided to dress it up in a denim vest (thrifted for only .95 cents!!) and a little bandage skirt.

Although by far my favourite part of the outfit would be the shoes. Michael Kors shoes at Ross! I didn't think it was possible. Now, they were more pricey than their other regular shoes, but at a keen $23 I couldn't refuse. I had not been inside a Ross before that moment in months, and now I'm back often to scour the shoe racks for more rare treats!

Fri Jun 27th - Whoa, it's been a while!

I haven't posted an outfit in a while! I guess that defeats the purpose of the "daily outfit", no? It's not that I haven't been going out, I guess it's more along the lines of it being difficult to get a photo everyday. I think I'm going to try to stay more up to date with it, especially since I got a few new itmes since I got back from San Diego.

I definitely have to learn how to hem up dresses though. I tend to have dresses and skirts that are much too long and need hemming. I tried to look it up on wikihow, although I'm skeptical on whether or not I could actually pull it off. But I'll get it done....eventually.

There was also some odd invasion of peculiar insects. They were an extreme bright green color and extremely tiny. Very odd.

Songspirations - Nico's "These Days"

The previous meme really inspired me to figure out outfits based on songs. It's not exactly the most original idea, but I really liked playing around with the idea.

Currently this week, aside from the 7 I listed, I've been playing Nico's cover of "These Days" as of late, from The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. The song itself can be found here...

THESE DAYS

Whenever I hear it, I think of this beautiful setting where Nico's hauntingly romantic voice drifts over an empty grassy field. It's dark, it's mellow, but it's still got this flair of a brooding damsel. Which brings me to ideas for two outfits, both relatively monotoned and a little dismal, but still very romantic with frills and lace being the main focus.

Charm bracelets, bows, flowers, lace, it all comes together into two looks of subtle excess. Hope you all are inspired!

HECTIC!!!

It's been so busy and hectic lately. My birthday was on the 22nd, so I was running around planning things for that day and yesterday. Luckily all of the festivities were over. I was able to stop by Melrose yesterday in my excursions with friends from San Diego, and I was so pleased by some of the thrift and vintage stores I frequented!! Unfortunately I didn't buy anything. But I still need to take pictures of the new things I bought last week!

So anyways, I was tagged by Fatal Attraction 2 Fashion and Be Stylin' to do a music meme! (Thanks, you two! Somehow, as lame as it sounds, I feel a little more legit as a blogger being tagged by you two haha.)

“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”

o1.) Mates of State - Getting Better
- I'm a huge fan of Mates of State. This new song off of their latest album is light and a little playful. It's a little on the slower side, but the tempo mixed with the vocals just go for a nifty late-spring early-summer sound.

o2.) Lykke Li - I'm Good I'm Gone
- Lykke Li has such great talent. She's got great fashion, she's beautiful, and her vocals are a little eccentric with a little bit of girliness in it. It's definitely unique though, as is this song.

o3.) M.I.A. - Boyz
- M.I.A. is made of so many kinds of awesome. This song is playful with a catchy tune that will stick to your head for days to come.

o4.) Lightspeed Champion - Tell Me What It's Worth
- Lightspeed Champion, aka; Dev the drummer from Test Icicles, is surprisingly talented. I saw him in concert for my birthday, and not only is he charming, but he's a great vocalist, guitarist, AND a drummer. And he has a bitching sense of style.

o5.) Plants & Animals - Bye Bye Bye
- I couldn't find a better quality for this song on youtube...but it's definitely gold. I just got into Plants and Animals and I really like their sound. I've never been good at describing their sound, but it's very catchy and fun.

o6.) Mystery Jets - Pioneers (Bloc Party cover)
- I have to say, although the similarity is there, Mystery Jets really made this cover of Bloc Party's "Pioneers" their own. I'm absolutely smitten!!

o7.) Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un Autre ete
- I recall seeing Amelie for the first time. This song captured my heart and I couldn't let it go. I could never tire of this song. ♥

Spotlight

Decided to do a quickie spotlight from what I've seen at wardrobe_remix. The results were considerably awesome.

From Left to Right : Anja Louise Verdugo, hounddesign, nemrešpobjećodnedjelje

#1 - There is something just charming about the top with the skirt. Everything is so girly, it just makes me want to puke with cute. I love it! Especially floral print, as I've been just mad for it lately. With t-straps? Yes please.

#2 - The first thing that hits you in the face would be the skirt. Buttons, pockets, sunny summery blocks of colors, what's not to love? Although for me, the limelight has been pretty much stolen by the white top. Love the detailing in it!

#3 - I saw her and immediately I was smitten by her laidback get up. It's unconventional, which I love, and believe it or not...she made those shoes herself! I'm thoroughly impressed.

Thu Jun 19th - Umm....

I haven't really had an outfit post in a while. To be honest, I haven't really been going out as much due to my room-move to my sister's old room. WOW, it's surprising how many articles of clothing I actually own. I put a lot aside for "storage" purposes, and I was a little shocked and slightly disgusted (at myself, for putting these away) at all the clothes I own from Urban Outfitters and Forever21 that I'm just shunting aside.

Anyways, I've been thrifting like mad the past few days. Some admittedly for me, some others for ebay once I get this batch finished up. A lot more shoes this time around, and one especially adorable. Off-white little heels with this adorable bow-tie clip on. Yet once again I can't fit into it, but I guess it's a lot better for my wallet.

So what I wore today. Very boring and plain, and my face is oddly creepy-looking. I just went thrifting and out to brunch with an old friend of mine.

A Quick Flash Through Fashion - the early 90's!

I can't say I necessarily grew up in the 90's. I mean, if by "growing up" you could say I was glued onto the TV screen watching cartoons and dabbling in money-consuming children's hobbies, but alas I wasn't quite aware of the fashion and stylings of the the era when I was actually LIVING it.

I do recall taking a peek at those silly yet sinfully addicting shows such as Beverly Hills 90210, or even better, Saved by The Bell. I also recall admiring my sister for her somewhat obnoxious yet delightfully 90's attire as she would trot off to spend her high school days in an era where fashion can be extremely under appreciated. So to relive the older days where I was more unawares, I took a look at some nostalgic yet delightfully tasteful (in a rather gaudy way) era of fashion.

These are only early 90's picks, just because one post for one decade of fashion and evolution would just be a killer.

Saved By the Bell
I have to admit, watching Saved By the Bell again was what inspired me to think of the early 90's. Their use of prints, layering, and obnoxious silhouettes was what really made my mind start thinking.

The denim jacket is so very hip. And the print is gaudy, excessive, yet delightfully fun and totally 90's. I know this has been said and done a million times, but it just flashes M.I.A. in my brain when I think of these prints.

I'm also really liking Kelly's high waisted skirt, belt, and floral top mix. Casual, yet very retro.

Beverly Hills 90210
I'm going to be frank. I am absolutely dreading the spinoff. I seriously doubt it can be nearly as cheesy as the original was. I still recall being seriously confused every time I watched this, but that was what was delightful about it.

The off-shoulder floral dress is a must have. I've been scouring through thrift stores in order to find something like that, although possibly not nearly as skin-tight. (I'm not a size 2, thank you.) But with the right amounts of jewelry paired over stirrup leggings or even by itself, it would look so very hip.

Family Matters
Who can seriously exclude Urkel when you think of fashion?

Extreme influence in nerd chic culture. I'm seriously inspired.

Booooo

As I was thrifting a while back, I ran into these amazing shoes with Route 66 etched onto the buckle. It was amazing! But of course, with my luck, they just had to be 2 sizes too small.

In the end I had to put them up on ebay to sell off, but I was so bummed that I couldn't fit into them. :(

After much thought, it really does suck to have size 9 feet. Thrifted shoes and vintage shoes run either very narrow or small, leaving me left in the dust when it comes to adorable shoes. The only time I can find vintage shoes in my size would be if I scoured ebay very....very thoroughly.

...Just my woe of the day, I suppose. :(

Sat Jun 14th - Anniversary

Today was a relative's 10th anniversary party. I expected it to be at some small party venue or some sort of restaurant, so I ended up going all out with my outfit. I'm a huge Project Runway fan, so when I saw this dress for sale at Steve & Barry's a few months back, I flipped out and just had to get it. So I did, and it was a reasonable deal even for S&B's. ($20)

I also got new glasses....finally. I normally don't need glasses, but I sometimes do when I have to read a lot or when my eyes get really tired. I lost my last pair a few months back, and I finally took the initiative to get new ones.

You can also see the new purse I got from thrifting the other day! I was just too excited to break them in, and I love the cute convenient compact size.

Fri Jun 13th - Unlucky?!

Now that I'm finally home in OC, I thought I'd crash by some local thrift stores. As I was browsing through Salvation Army for any tibits, one of the workers announced that it was Friday the 13th today! Although he did it in a way where he was able to announce the extra 50% off clothing hehe. I ended up just getting a cute red sidepurse, but it was still a little magical in the end.

I feel like moving back to OC is like getting reacquainted with society. I went through Target and somehow felt like it was so foreign! It was also my first real glimpse at the Rogan line for Target....which I don't exceptionally care for.

Louise

If you guys haven't heard yet, the infamous Louise has just opened up a blog misspandorapandora.

There's already a few posts on display, although it's a shame I can't read the French on her blog. I'd love to understand her thoughts on art, since she's an art history student. Is it odd that I'm more excited by the fact I can relate to her passion for art history, moreso than I am to see her fabulous style?

I just took my last final today, so I'm ready to go home and relax ASAP. Good bye La Jolla, hello Orange County!

Fashion and....Videogames?

Fashion and videogames collided with the introduction of H&M's new set of a clothing line for the popular hit game, The Sims 2.

Although most people don't know it, I'm a great fan of good videogames and I enjoy playing whenever I get the spare time. But it comes as an interesting concept to me when you think about the interaction between modern fashion and videogames. Especially in context to what the characters themselves wear.

In all of the games I've played, realistically a lot of the fashion looked as if they were truly the product of a fantasy-inspired dream. However, there have been moments where I just do a double-take and realize with great surprise, "My! Look at what she's wearing!"

Mackenzie from the Nintendo DS game, "Touch Detective" was a recent example of my surprise. With her Amelie Poulain-inspired haircut, beret, scarf, sailor-inspired dress with black tights and white and black boots, who wouldn't get inspiration from that?

Mon Jun 9th - Dressing Up

I haven't been dressing up very much the past few days. If anything, I've been stuck in my PJ's trying to get all my finals stuff in order, as well other other various pressing matters.

Since I finally get out of my cave known as the "dorm room", I finally decided to dress up a bit and wear a few not-so-new clothes that I haven't really been able to wear until now. The blazer was a particularly favourite find! It was really big though, and I tried to shrink it down via washer+dryer, and it has but not significantly. Looks like I'll need another alternative to shrink it down some more.

Accessible Fashion

I'm a shopper who personally believes that shopping for clothes should be easy, and that buying clothes shouldn't have to bankrupt me. Now of course there's Thrift Stores there to save my wallet, but it's the challenge of finding the right retail store that's fashion-forward and easily accessible as well. So I went on a search through various sites for neat wardrobe bits $25 and under.

Lux Sunday in the Park Shorts - $9.99

Pleated Striped Tunic - $22.80

KimChi & Blue Sonnet Blouse - $14.99

Kelby Peep Toe Mary Jane - $22.80

Everything is definitely under $25. In particular I love the shoes, they definitely look classy but fun with the cutouts. I also am in want of the tunic. It's simple, and would be paired nicely with black tights and black shoes...maybe the mary janes?

Thurs Jun 5th - Pout

Today was surprisingly a dismal day for me. It was my last day in studio for art, and I just felt sad all over when it was done. I always dreaded going to critique sessions, but however much I bitch and moan, I really loved hanging around those people. Everyone was so funny, and it was so entertaining to be last to get out and watch youtube.

But I guess this means the quarter is almost over. Summer's another day closer!

6 Fashion Quirks

Something I nabbed from Liebmarlene, and thought would be fun to do. It's pretty much listing 6 fashion quirks I have. Although it doesn't sound much, I wonder if I even have 6. But I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

o1. ) I love layering. I love it when people layer their clothes well. It's actually something my grandmother frowns upon, since she always asks me, "Why do you do that to your clothes?" and to be honest, I don't know. There's something aesthetically pleasing to me about the ability to pile two different garments together to create a cohesive look. Although there's nothing wrong with a more simplified look, I am just generally more pleased with my outfit for the day if it required more thought and and coordination.

o2. ) When I'm in search for new clothes to buy (or shoes as well) I always tend to gravitate towards more ornate and decorated articles of clothing. I love patterns, I love detailing, I love unique silhouettes and cuts. Although this comes as a problem when I'm mixing and matching my wardrobe options.

o3. ) I don't really have a "style", per se. I range from quaint dresses to geek-chic, and so on. I don't really have a set idea of what kind of clothes I restrict myself to, so I just wear whatever I want!

o4. ) I'm an extremely cheap shopper. Because I'm a full-time student, I don't have a job and I'm one of those kids that just hates asking parents for money. So whenever I do scrape by with some spare money to spend, I shop cheap. Thrift stores are my best friends (especially on campus, where things range from .50 cents to $5) and whenever I go into a large retail store, I love Sale-shopping.

o5. ) When I decide on what to wear for the day and get dressed, I love putting music on. I feel like it really adds to what I feel like wearing that day, and it sets the mood for the rest of my day as well. If something fun and dancey is on, I tend to dress a little more eccentric, or if I'm listening to something soft and mellow I tend to go more mellowed in my clothing choices.

o6. ) I used to be an awful dresser when I was younger. I guess I just didn't know better, and I didn't really get to find my niche back then as well. Typical things I wore were just jeans and a large baggy sweatshirt, or I would be really involved with Hollister and American Eagle. (God forbid I go back! I regard those places as fashion death valley.) As I grew up, I think I learned to be more courageous with what I wore and that's how I currently came to be.

Tues Jun 3rd - Flippy Hair Day

My hair's been really erratic. I would wake up, look in the mirror, and realize my hair is flippy....and then just go out like that. Today was such a nice day though. I had my usual day in class and all, although art had a nice diversion of hilarious youtube videos. (Just proving that my TA, Leigh, is absolutely the best TA I've ever had.)

This floral romper is a little short to be wearing without tights, but I've gone through the day fine without any accident. Now, time to go work on my essay for class. :(

Mon Jun 2nd - Geeky

It's really odd how random things can pique your interests. Today it was Weird Al Yankovic's "White & Nerdy" video. I don't take myself to the extent that many of "geeks" do, but somehow I feel like I can connect to many of the geek qualities. (Star Wars, web design, all the geek references.) So today I went a little geeky in my outfit, just to live the fun.

Sun Jun 1st -- Hmm look what I found

What an exciting way to start off June, my favourite month of the year. I was digging through my hoard of stuff and I found a book that I had bought off of my school library back in High School. It's this really great and amazing book about fashion and how it had progressed and changed from the early 1900's to 1975. (Which was pretty much when it was published.)

They also go really in depth about silhouettes and the changing trends. I have to admit, this will be such a great source of inspiration later on.

And, of course, what I'm wearing today. The shot is a little odd though, kind of bad choice considering the lighting. But my mom took the pic, and it was really fun having her do it for me. :)
