Coachellie Weekend

Sorry I've been so absent as of late! My camera has been making it a hassle to consistently document my outfits, and school+spring break has been a rush of activities. (Georgia, I must mention, was magical! Shopping was fantastic there, and did I mention the 7% sales tax??? Yes please!)

This past weekend was Coachella, and I got to attend all 3 days of music and fun. Although no photos were taken, there was such an amazing crowd of fashionistas just out to have fun and relax in the sun. It was like being in heaven!

My outfit for the first day. So very comfortable and form-free.

Sleigh Bells

Zooey Deschanel for She & Him! She was such a doll.

Vampire Weekend put on one of the best shows in the weekend.

Alexander of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

There were so many more that I was lucky enough to see such as Muse, Gorillaz, The Temper Trap, The xx, Hot Chip, Yann Tiersen, Julian Casablancas, Grizzly Bear, and many more!

Overall, a pleasing weekend indeed.

Thursday January 15th - From Day & Night

The alarm goes off. I wake up feeling refreshed, energized, and slightly amused at how little time I have to actually get ready for the daily work grind. Once I began to throw on my work-ready ensemble (which consisted of a pair of pants...something I haven't worn in MONTHS), I realized how fun it would be to have a small blog feature about transforming my basic "look" from daytime work wear to night time fun. It did take me some thinking time to plan out a basic night time look for a concert I was headed to that night, but throughout the day my plans just fell right into place.

Day: Blouse-Gap ($12), Blazer-Foreign Exchange ($22), Jeans-???, Brogues-Salvation Army Vintage ($19)
Night: Blouse-Gap ($12), Blazer-Foreign Exchange ($22), Skirt-Urban Outfitters ($10), Wedges-Urban Outfitters/Dean&Ozzy ($30), Bib Necklace-Gift/Etsy ($19)

Staple pieces in my work outfit were the blazer and the white top. These were both recent purchases over my winter break in Orange County, and loved the combination! It was just baggy, loose, comfortable, and the little pleating details just add so much girliness to the other bold basic pieces. Paired with a demure braid-bun (in which I braided my hair and flipped it around to make a sweet little back bun), I had a very comfy and heart-worthy work outfit.

Inspiration: Asobi Seksu - Thursday (YOUTUBE)

Switch over to the night scene, I was getting ready to head out to an Asobi Seksu concert. (If you haven't heard of them, you must check out their music! I provided a youtube link prior to this paragraph!) I kept the key top and blazer, and instead substituted it for a girly skirt, tights, and my new Dean & Ozzy wedges. All together it was a very minor wardrobe change, and I darkened my makeup and threw on some fiery lipstick. (In detail, I mixed Taihiti Red and Scarlett from MAC to create my color!)

Overall...excellent day. And my dear partner-in-crime helped take photos of me like a "mini photoshoot" right after the show. It was so silly and fun! Especially when he started following me and taking photos of me just walking about.

I hope you all enjoyed my post! Honestly, it may seem most advantageous for me to resolve blogging more. Hopefully this may yield fruitful results! Ciao!

Coachella 2009

So I went to Coachella over the weekend! Although really I only got to go on Sunday, but it was still a blast anyways! I got to see such bands as the Vivian Girls, No Age, Okkervil River, Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John, The Cure, and of course my all-time favourite the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It was such a blast! I present to you pictures, as well as my own ridiculous outfit for the day!

And that was my weekend! :) I'm hoping to be able to find time to take more outfit shots, but things have been nonstop madness for me!

Devendra Banhart - Carmensita

I finally got to peek at Devendra Banhart's new video for "Carmensita", a track off of his latest album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. I have to say, it's been a while since such a funny and humorous music video actually got to inspire me artistically. But then again, Devendra's vision as an artist mixed with the smooth catchy ambiance of his music would inspire anyone.

The use of bright bold colors and motifs from old 60's/70's Bollywood films was such great fun. And of course, seeing Natalie Portman was a definite bonus. (For those who don't know, Natalie is actually dating the musician himself.)

I now present you all with my musical inspiration of the moment, Devendra Banhart's "Carmensita".

HECTIC!!!

It's been so busy and hectic lately. My birthday was on the 22nd, so I was running around planning things for that day and yesterday. Luckily all of the festivities were over. I was able to stop by Melrose yesterday in my excursions with friends from San Diego, and I was so pleased by some of the thrift and vintage stores I frequented!! Unfortunately I didn't buy anything. But I still need to take pictures of the new things I bought last week!

So anyways, I was tagged by Fatal Attraction 2 Fashion and Be Stylin' to do a music meme! (Thanks, you two! Somehow, as lame as it sounds, I feel a little more legit as a blogger being tagged by you two haha.)

“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”

o1.) Mates of State - Getting Better
- I'm a huge fan of Mates of State. This new song off of their latest album is light and a little playful. It's a little on the slower side, but the tempo mixed with the vocals just go for a nifty late-spring early-summer sound.

o2.) Lykke Li - I'm Good I'm Gone
- Lykke Li has such great talent. She's got great fashion, she's beautiful, and her vocals are a little eccentric with a little bit of girliness in it. It's definitely unique though, as is this song.

o3.) M.I.A. - Boyz
- M.I.A. is made of so many kinds of awesome. This song is playful with a catchy tune that will stick to your head for days to come.

o4.) Lightspeed Champion - Tell Me What It's Worth
- Lightspeed Champion, aka; Dev the drummer from Test Icicles, is surprisingly talented. I saw him in concert for my birthday, and not only is he charming, but he's a great vocalist, guitarist, AND a drummer. And he has a bitching sense of style.

o5.) Plants & Animals - Bye Bye Bye
- I couldn't find a better quality for this song on youtube...but it's definitely gold. I just got into Plants and Animals and I really like their sound. I've never been good at describing their sound, but it's very catchy and fun.

o6.) Mystery Jets - Pioneers (Bloc Party cover)
- I have to say, although the similarity is there, Mystery Jets really made this cover of Bloc Party's "Pioneers" their own. I'm absolutely smitten!!

o7.) Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un Autre ete
- I recall seeing Amelie for the first time. This song captured my heart and I couldn't let it go. I could never tire of this song. ♥

Fri May 30th - So late...But so Awesome

Today I saw Beirut with The Brunettes. To sum it all in a simple phrase; awesome in a mindblowing way. I just had to share some pictures of the concert, and of course what I wore to the concert.

Ipod Disaster!!!

My iPod 80 gig is a mess. Ever since I got it updated with new software, it's been wonky and I've had to reset it to factory settings 4 times in the last month. Sucks for me since I have to reload it again and again with about 10 gigs worth of music and 4 worth of videos and pictures. Although the video part is what really messes it up.

So, I'm planning on bringing it over to the iPod store and having them check it out. I got it really recently, in late January actually, so I don't expect it to be breaking down anytime soon. I'm pretty angry about it, actually, especially since it's such a hassle.

Anyways, here's an especially interesting video. I love the art direction of this video, mixed with the amazing music, and the especially stylish individuals in it.

The Teenagers - Homecoming

...yeah I really want to go out and get suspenders, cute little shorts, and a really nice frilly blouse.
